Clitheroe (/ˈklɪðəroʊ/) is a town and civil parish in the Borough of Ribble Valley, Lancashire, England. It is located 34 miles (55 km) north-west of Manchester. It is near the Forest of Bowland and is often used as a base for tourists visiting the area. In 2018, the Clitheroe built-up area had an estimated population of 16,279.

The town was listed in the 2017 The Sunday Times report on the best places to live in Northern England. The wider Ribble Valley is where Clitheroe is the most populous settlement. It was listed in the 2018 and 2024 Sunday Times report on the best places to live.[4][5] Clitheroe and the wider Ribble Valley have been listed as the healthiest place to live in the United Kingdom. They have also been noted as the happiest place to live.

Clitheroe Castle is the town’s most notable building. It is said to be one of the smallest Norman keeps in Great Britain. Several manufacturing companies have sites here, including Dugdale Nutrition, Hanson Cement, Johnson Matthey and Tarmac.

The name Clitheroe is thought to come from the Anglo-Saxon for “Rocky Hill”,[10] and was also spelled Clyderhow and Cletherwoode,[11] amongst others. The town was the administrative centre for the lands of the Honour of Clitheroe. The Battle of Clitheroe was fought in 1138 during the Anarchy. These lands were held by Roger the Poitevin, who passed them to the de Lacy family, from whom they passed by marriage in 1310 or 1311 to Thomas, Earl of Lancaster.[11] It then became part of the Duchy of Lancaster. At the Restoration, Charles II bestowed it on George Monck, 1st Duke of Albemarle. The property descended through the house of Montague to that of Buccleuch.[11]

At one point, the town of Clitheroe was given to Richard, 1st Duke of Gloucester. Up until 1835, the Lord of the Honor was also, by right, Lord of Bowland. This position was known as the Lord of the Fells.[12] The town’s earliest existing charter is from 1283. It was granted by Henry de Lacy, Earl of Lincoln. This charter confirmed rights granted by one of his forebears between 1147 and 1177.[10]

According to local legend, stepping stones across the River Ribble near the town are home to an evil spirit. This spirit drowns one traveler every seven years.[13]

Since their introduction into the tile world, large format tile has not only grown in popularity, but also in size. From 24×24 all the way up to 40×120, larger tiles are all the rage (including popular wood-look plank tiles).

Choosing the Right Tiles for a Light and Spacious Bathroom

Style of Tiles make the bathroom feel more spacious

Style of Tiles. Depending on the size of the bathroom, black can be used at different points in the room to keep a sensation of lightness. If you have a large enough room, you can combine walls and fittings in dark colours with touches of white in the sink, on the taps and on the towels for the shower.

For example, the Architect black finish unit by Noken can be paired with the counter top basin from the same collection in white and Round Chrome taps.
Another important consideration is to have a natural light source that counterbalances the dark fittings and creates a brighter effect.

In smaller rooms, it is better to use light colours on walls and floors. Wood can create the right balance with dark fittings and give a sensation of warmth. Style of Tiles.

Black is a neutral classic, but you need to strike the right balance when furnishing the home so as not to create a dark effect. Dark furniture and fittings work in any room in the home, especially bathrooms and kitchens. Here are some suggestions for choosing the most suitable designs from East Lancs Tile Centre.

The modern bathroom design is simply defined by its look. Straight, clean lines, uncluttered counter spaces and geometric shapes dominate the landscape.

Modern design takes quite a departure from the antique and ornate detailed traditional interior design theme—in fact, the concept is exactly the opposite.

A full bathroom is understood to contain a bath or shower (or both), a toilet, and a sink. … In some markets, a toilet, sink, and shower are considered a “full bath.” Moreover, there is the use of the word “bathroom” to describe a room containing a toilet and a basin, and nothing else.

Most often, a bathroom either has a tub or a shower. … But when both the tub and the shower are as amazing as these ones, then you have a luxury bathroom. In here, it’s a wonderful combination of beautiful, natural material, graceful shapes and wonderful transparency.

The bathroom was a place of washing, of nurturing our sanity with the sensation of warm water and aromatic soaps.

For the body must feel loved and cared for, for then it feeds back these messages to the brain and begins to set up a positive cycle of wellness. Call 01254 57567 for any more information or email eastlancstilecentre2019@gmail.com
